Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations Release 2 have received the prestigious VB100 award following testing conducted on a Windows 7 platform.

A total of 43 antivirus products, including solutions from the leading vendors, participated in comparative testing conducted by the authoritative British magazine Virus Bulletin. Testing took place in November 2009 and was conducted on a platform running Windows 7. In order to successfully pass the test the solutions had to detect 100% of the malicious programs from a WildList collection as well as a collection of worms/bots and polymorphic viruses. The solutions also had to avoid generating any false positives when scanning a collection of clean files. The collections included the latest types of IT threats such as several variants of the widespread Kido (Conficker) worm, programs designed to steal passwords for online games as well as programs distributed via social networking sites. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations Release 2 both passed the tests with flying colors and were awarded the VB100 logo.

The Kaspersky Lab solutions also demonstrated high performance levels when detecting Trojan programs in on-demand scanning mode and reactive and proactive protection modes, although the results from these categories did not count towards the VB100 award.

“Kaspersky’s latest consumer offering is as glossy and shiny a beast as ever” was Virus Bulletin’s verdict on Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010. According to the magazine’s experts, installation and getting the hang of the new-look interface does not take long and the user is offered a wide choice of options for fine-tuning settings. In addition, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations Release 2 integrates a “wealth of configuration options” and provides a user experience that is “extremely smooth and trouble free”.

Kaspersky Lab solutions are regular participants in the VB tests, demonstrating excellent results. In 2009, the company’s products received awards in all six comparative tests conducted on various platforms.

The full report is available in the December 2009 edition of Virus Bulletin or at http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100.

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management systems, announces that Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 has demonstrated exceptionally high levels of protection in testing carried out by the respected German laboratory AV-Test as part of their Real World trial.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 was subjected to real-life conditions using the latest malware in accordance with a custom methodology developed especially for the purpose by AV-Test.

The trial included 12 popular Internet security solutions from different vendors. Each solution was subjected to approximately 10 new pieces of ‘zero-day’ malware every 24 hours, (i.e., malware that had only just appeared on the Internet) over a 60-day test period. The full set of malicious software used for testing comprised some 600 active samples, including exploits and malware distributed by email.

The solutions were permitted to apply their full range of protective technologies, including filtration of blacklisted URLs and applications, behavioral analysis, signature-based detection etc. It should be noted that traditionally, when analyzing an antivirus solution’s performance only one type of protective technology is used, such as signature-based scanning (reactive protection) or proactive protection modules.

The effectiveness of the protection offered was assessed according to two categories: ‘Malware Detection’ and ‘Malware Blocking’. The criteria applied included malware detection rates, the degree to which the destructive activity of the malware was blocked and the number of false positives recorded against a collection of harmless programs.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 achieved a high score in the Real World test, coming second in the ‘Malware Detection’ category (97.5%) and third in the ‘Malware Blocking’ category (89.8%) and recording very few false positives.

“Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 achieved excellent results in the Real World test because it takes advantage of a unique synergy of technologies that effectively complement and enhance each other,” said Director of Anti-Malware Research Nikita Shvetsov. “We believe that the near future of antivirus solution testing lies with tests which analyze, in real-life conditions, the effectiveness of the entire integrated set of technologies included in each product and which model user behavior. Today, with tens of thousands of new malicious programs appearing on the Internet every day, only such tests are capable of demonstrating the real level of user protection. This is why we fully support the AV-Test laboratory which develops and implements innovative methods of dynamic testing.”
